Thaumaturgy

Last week I ran a session of D&D where my warlock wanted to find a magic item that will help the rest of the party see through his magical darkness during combat. Instead of saying no or worse, dropping a custom magic item into the local shop, I told the party that nothing like that existed, but if they wanted to have one crafted, they would have to gather the ingredients and help the local artificer craft it for them. This turned into an exciting adventure where the party had to hunt down and vanquish a devil in order to harvest their eyes, ending with the whole party contributing a part of their essence in a ritual that bound the power of the devil's sight into four items for each of them to use. This session was a bit off the cuff and I was surprised how fun it ended up being. I spent then next week rewriting the mechanics I came up for it so that I could collect it all into one easily referenced guide which I am excited to announce is now available here on my page. I'm really excited to hear what people think of it and how their own experiences go when they test it out in their own games.
